Leaves and Tea

We gathered some leaves, pine straw and dried hydrangea flowers outside the other day for an art project. Kelwyn made a fall collage, which turned out beautiful. I cut contact paper and placed it sticky side up for Kelwyn to arrange his fall collection. When he was done, I helped him press the leaves down and placed another piece of contact paper on top (sticky side down) to keep it in place. We pressed it overnight to help flatten the leaves. We placed it in the window for display.

Later on in the day, we decided to have a tea party. I have always loved tea and the ritual and art of preparing it. When I was pregnant with Adeline I lost my taste for tea and stayed away from caffeine. I used to start the day with a nice cup of black tea or yerba mate with milk and honey. I would make a nutritive quart of herbal tea with nettle, milky oat tops, lemon balm, raspberry leaves, alfalfa and peppermint to drink though out the day. Kelwyn loves to drink out of my tea cup and to hear the kettle boiling. "Kettle hot" he says. What better way to bring tea back in my daily routine than with a lovely tea party.

We invited a few of Kelwyn's animal friends and served the party chamomile and lavender tea with ginger snaps.

Adeline came dressed in one of her finest gowns.

Autumn Days

I am loving being outside on a beautiful fall day. The leaves are at their peak. The trees are surrounding me in colors of blazing orange, red, yellow and brown. I love this time of year and it brings me so much peace before the quiet and darkness yet to come. The sky is a brilliant blue. Is it this blue and serene all year round? Earth's one last burst of color and brilliance before a long winter's rest. Kelwyn seems to be enjoying it too!

Kelwyn and I, with Adeline in the sling, are collecting leaves, dried flowers and pine straw for an art project later on. What fun to fill a bag with the beautiful colors falling from the sky like a light rain. Kelwyn also loves to collect leaves and acorns for our fall nature table.

Kelwyn is 2!

My precious little Kelwyn is 2! What a special day to start my posts. It is hard to believe how fast the time goes by. It seems like just yesterday I was holding him all day in the sling and watching him learn how to crawl. Now he is running, jumping and talking up a storm. The past two years of my life have been filled with so much joy and happiness, I feel so honored to be a mama to this little one. Everyday brings a new adventure and lesson (for me) to be learned. He is filled with such a strong and beautiful spirit and keeps me on my toes. I love you Kelwyn and feel so blessed to have you in my life!. Happy birthday!
I love watching the spark and amazement in his eyes at trying something new. Today brought his first balloons, which kept him at play for hours on end! I made him a yummy carrot cake, which he was happy to dip his fingers in the icing and take a bite.
