Stained Glass Valentines

Today Kelwyn made Stained Glass Valentines for his art project. He absolutely loved this project and wanted to make more and more hearts. We may have to do it again sometime this week. I shredded tissue paper and placed it in a bowl for Kelwyn to choose from. I also laid out contact paper sticky side up for him to press the tissue paper into.
When he was done arranging his colors, I placed another piece of contact paper on top. We smashed it down to press the tissue paper together to form a nice seal. Then I cut hearts out and placed tape on the back for Kelwyn to place in the window. I think this was his favorite part. He stood on his little table and kept asking for more hearts.
As he was arranging them to his liking, he was saying a heart for Mommy, a heart for Daddy, a heart for Adeline, a heart for baby..... It was very sweet.
We made one for Daddy to take to work to hang in his window too. They turned out beautiful and look so pretty with the light coming through.
Adeline was enjoying watching Kelwyn arrange his lovely hearts and got a little tummy time in this afternoon.
She is starting to move around a little more and has now rolled once from her back to her tummy by herself. On another note, Kelwyn got some harmonicas in his Kindermusik class the other day. He has loved running around the house playing his new tunes. He had a jam session last night with Daddy I just had to share. It was so adorable to see Kelwyn placing the harmonica in Slater's mouth, then playing one himself. Adeline was enjoying the tunes too. We may have the beginnings of a home grown band.

Candlemas and Tea cakes

This week we have been celebrating Candlemas, the halfway mark between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. I look forward to welcoming spring and the return of light and warmth, flowers, fairies, and sunshine. I cannot wait to see the first little flowers awaiting under the snow. Kelwyn and I lit the candle we made in his Waldorf Toddler Parent Group before Christmas. It is a beeswax candle we rolled and placed it inside a cut tree branch with a drilled hole. I also read a sweet little story about snowdrops. They are first flowers that can peep their heads up, even in the snow.
"Darling little snow-drops,
Coming up so boldly,
While the winds of winter,
Yet are blowing coldly"
Kelwyn and I made some tasty lemon-lime tea cakes this morning too. In celebration of warmer and sweeter days to come. The zesty lemony aroma filled the kitchen and Kelwyn could not get enough of the lime flavor. He kept dipping his finger into the juice I squeezed and tasting the lime. He likes that tart, sour flavor. He did not even cringe!

Chai

I love drinking a nice warm cup of chai tea and enjoy making a big pot from scratch with fresh ingredients. I found a recipe for a chai tea concentrate from one of the blogs I read. The recipe can be found here. It is very easy and I had most of the ingredients already, and it lasts in the fridge for several months.
Kelwyn helped me put the powdered spices in and stir. Very easy and quick. You just add a few teaspoons to a hot cup of black tea. I tried rooibos too for a nice caffeine free alternative.
Adeline had fun playing with her big brother this afternoon. She kept grabbing his hands and just staring at him. So sweet!
