Schoolhouse tunic

I have not done too much sewing this spring, but had a few things to sew for Kelwyn's school.  I got a  kick and decided to sew myself something.  I meant to sew this over the winter, but lost my desire and energy to sew at night after my little ones were asleep.  So it kinda of worked out that it has been a cool week so I could wear my new tunic!  I sewed the Schoolhouse tunic from Sew Liberated, using a very soft cotton Japanese fabric, Nani Iro, from Miss Matatabi.

It fits perfect and now I want to get started on some summer dresses for Adeline, a few pairs of shorts for Kelwyn and maybe a dress or two for me. I forgot how rewarding it is to make a garment so quickly, compared to knitting, and wear it a few days later.

This cotton gauze would make a darling summer dress, hmmm, I do need to use some fabric in my stash first though...
Oh, how could I resist these?

Windy afternoon tea

It was quite a windy and chilly day.  We have been quite spoiled with such an early Spring, and I must confess it can come back any day now.  The little ones insisted on enjoying our afternoon tea and cookies out on our patio.  How could I resist the cuteness!  I made them chamomile and passionflower tea with cream and violet honey, animal cookies and raspberry covered pretzels while I enjoyed earl grey with cream and violet honey and a locally baked cookie.
Adeline carried the cups full of tea, a few splashes here and there, and Kelwyn carried out the tray of cookies.
Quite tasty and silly smiles as we enjoyed our windy afternoon tea.

On the bobbin

I finished spinning another lovely art batt from Hobbledehoy this past week, called Moon Boots. It has many colors, pink being on of them. Many shades. It just so happens that Adeline's favorite color is pink, so I think I will find something to knit for her with this yarn. I got hit pretty hard in the head today with a shovel in the garden(done by myself, crazy accident). I had a hard time getting up and thankfully Slater was able to come home pretty quickly to watch after the little ones, make dinner, clean dishes, bathe little ones, and read bedtime stories, while I sat on the couch with an ice pack on my head. All after a very hectic couple of work weeks for him. Thank you dear, really owe you:)

Easter Day

A lovely and busy day of full Easter baskets, egg hunts, walks, running in meadows, rolling down hills, walking barefoot in the soft grass, and banana pudding for dessert. Oh, Kelwyn had a nice conversation with our angora bunny, Violet Star, about the Easter bunny. Apparently the two bunnies talked quite a bit before we all woke up Easter morning. Very sweet. Hope everyone had a wonderful day and enjoying the Earth awakening all around us!

Walking in Spring

The little ones and I had a lovely walk at the NC Arboretum yesterday. We saw so many spring flowers, blooming trees and shrubs as we made our way through the gardens and forests. We even saw a very large lizard Kelwyn has not stopped talking about. Beautiful afternoon.

River Stone handspun

I finished spinning and setting a lovely classic batt from Hobbledehoy. She named it River Stone, and rightfully so. It has so many beautiful colors, like a gentle stream bubbling over pebbles and rocks shimmering in the sun.
The yarn has merino wool, tencel and silk fibers with a bit of sparkle. It was corespun, which I am loving right now! Corespinning is so much fun and it is a great way to use up left over yarn in my knitting stash, which becomes the core I spin the fiber around. Hoping to try some very soft fiber from my angora bunny tonight. I have been saving a bag of fur from her when we brought her home. It should make very warm mittens for next fall!
